The future of European mining lies in the Nordic countries.
The mining industry of Europe is centered in the Nordic countries and when the copper and zinc
mines of Poland are added more than three quarters of the total European Union (EU) metal mining sector is accounted for.
The European Commission’s has launched a Raw Materials Initiative to deal with the security of
supply of metals into Europe. This policy has three pillars. Facilitating mining in Europe is one of
them. If this policy shall have any chance of success it must include active participation in particular from Finland and Sweden.
